On December 29, the first of Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning's (002024.SZ) new "Virtual/Physical" stores will open in the Xinjiekou shopping district of Nanjing. The Xinjiekou Suning Expo Superstore will have more than 30,000 square meters of operating floor space following the remodeling, and will expand offerings to cover 400,000 products in all, comprising 100,000 distinct SKUs in 17 categories of products. Suning predicts that the store will generate as much as RMB 2 bln in sales within the next three years.
In addition to physical items like home appliances and 3C goods, the Xinjiekou Suning will also offer large quantities of virtual goods, including ticket and hotel reservations, balance recharging and bill-payment services, and other value-added services. The store will also house 28 product demonstration centers and sales zones, as well as game demo areas, children's play areas, and soft-drink bars. Full Wi-Fi coverage throughout the new Xinjiekou Suning will allow customers to order products from Suning.com, read and purchase online books, and use other internet services, including Suning.com order pickup, offline customer support, and after-sales and repair services.
