USTR Removes Taobao from Notorious Markets List

USTR, 12/13/12

US Trade Representative Ron Kirk today announced the results of the Special 301 Out-of-Cycle Review of Notorious Markets. The review lists more than 30 Internet and physical markets that exemplify marketplaces that deal in infringing goods and services, facilitating and sustaining global piracy and counterfeiting. Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao has been removed from the report for the first time after the site, "worked with rights holders to significantly decrease the listing of infringing products for sale through its website." Chinese Internet firm Sohu's (Nasdaq: SOHU) online search subsidiary Sogou has also been removed from the list, citing efforts to address availability of infringing content on its site.
