Hunan CATV Network, Hunan Unicom Partner on Network Convergence

Hunan Cable TV Network Group, a subsidiary of Hunan TV & Broadcast Intermediary (000917.SZ), recently signed a framework agreement with China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) Hunan subsidiary for joint efforts toward promoting converged (triple-play) network services.
The two companies will partner in the following fields:
1) Broadband data services: Hunan Cable TV Network Group and Hunan Unicom will promote scattered partnerships between their municipal and county subsidiaries to the provincial level, expanding the provincial market for broadband services through complementary network resources, joint market development, and shared clientele.
2) Converged subscription plan services: The two companies will bundle their mobile, broadband, and cable TV services (including HDTV, dedicated TV channels, and VOD services) as bundled service packages to expand the home subscriber market.
3) Wireless hotspot coverage: The companies will use Hunan Cable TV Network Group's digital set-top boxes (STBs) to expand Hunan Unicom's indoor wireless data hotspot coverage.
4) Dedicated digital cable television services: Hunan Cable TV Network Group will offer a customized digital service zone containing VOD and premium HD and SD content for Hunan Unicom's VIP subscribers.
5) Multi-screen converged services: The two companies will jointly develop and promote multi-screen converged services.
6) Resource sharing: The two companies will share backbone, base-station, trunk line, residential compound channel, client, and business center resources provided that the sharing not affect the development of each company's own services.
7) Other: The two companies may add further partnerships as necessary for service development.
