Tencent's WeChat User Base to Reach 300 Mln in Early 2013

Pony Ma, chairman and CEO of Chinese internet giant Tencent (0700.HK), recently announced at an industry conference in Guangdong that Tencent's Weixin (WeChat) mobile messaging application will exceed 300 mln users in January 2013. As of September 2012, the mobile application had over 200 mln users.

Regarding partnerships with mobile operators, Ma said that WeChat is cooperating with operators along the entire supply chain and that the two sides do not have an antagonistic relationship as previously rumored, stating that Tencent has always been in close contact with mobile operators and is preparing to launch an innovative new partnership with them in Guangdong.
