Rumor: Sina to Merge Wireless Business into Sina Weibo

The Beijing News, 12/18/12

A number of sources inside Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) revealed today that a major restructuring of the company's Weibo microblog platform is forthcoming in January 2013, when Sina's wireless division will be folded into the Weibo division. Following the restructuring, the division will be headed up by current Sina VP and wireless GM Wang Gaofei. When contacted, Sina PR said it was unable to confirm the rumor at this time.

A source inside Sina also said that Weibo will be overseen by three senior executives in the future. Wang Gaofei will be responsible for Weibo products and technologies, Sina COO Du Hong will oversee operations and marketing, and a third executive, as yet undetermined, will oversee the Weibo open platform.
