Renren Updates On-deck Search Service

Tencent Tech, 12/18/12

Beijing-based social networking site operator Renren (NYSE: RENN) upgraded its on-deck search engine recently, allowing users to search by content categories including status updates, videos, journal entries, images, public pages, and Renren sites.

Following the upgrades, users can search by keywords to find out what their friends and other users are saying about popular topics. Results from friends are prioritized in Renren search results. When a user searches to see whether or not a restaurant serves good steaks, for instance, they will be able to see what their friends and other real-name users have said about the restaurant.

Owing to user privacy considerations, only content from publicly viewable entries will be searchable by other users. When publishing status updates or sharing journal entries or images, users may choose to make the content viewable only to friends or to all Renren users.
