China Telcos Announce November 2012 Subscriber Totals

China's three main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for November 2012.

November saw the net addition of 9.66 mln new mobile subscribers. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added 3.80 mln new mobile subscribers, pushing the operator's total mobile user base to 707.27 mln, of which a total of 82.43 mln subscribers used China Mobile's TD-SCDMA terminals during the month. China Mobile added 3.12 mln new TD-SCDMA subscribers in November.

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added 3.34 mln new mobile subscribers during the month, bringing its total to 236.22 mln. Of the new mobile subs added, approximately 78,000 were GSM subscribers, bringing China Unicom's total GSM user base to 162.89 mln, 3.26 mln users were WCDMA 3G subscribers, pushing the company's total WCDMA user base to 73.32 mln subscribers.

China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) saw a net addition of 2.52 mln new mobile subs, taking its total to 158.04 mln, of which 65.85 mln were CDMA2000 EV-DO subscribers and 92.19 mln were CDMA subs. China Telecom added 3.11 mln new CDMA2000 EV-DO subscribers and lost 590,000 CDMA subs in November.

Of the combined total of 221.60 mln 3G subs, China Mobile holds 37.20%, China Unicom 33.09%, and China Telecom 29.72%. Of total new mobile subs added in November, China Mobile took 39.36%, dropping its share of China's total mobile user base to 64.21%. China Unicom's share of the total mobile user base increased for the 22nd straight month, rising from 21.33% at the end of October to 21.44% at the end of November, while China Telecom's share increased for the 47th straight month, rising from 14.24% at the end of October to 14.35% at the end of November.

China Telecom lost 870,000 fixed-line subs, reducing its total to 164.04 mln, and China Unicom lost 174,000 fixed-line subs, decreasing its total to 92.42 mln.

China Telecom added 1.10 mln new broadband subscribers to reach 89.08 mln, and China Unicom gained 448,000 new broadband subs to reach 63.78 mln.
