Alipay to Release "Audio" Payment Verification Tool

Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay has entered into small-scale beta testing of a new audio payment product. According to Alipay's Director of Public and Customer Relations Wang Ziling, when purchasing goods through the Alipay mobile client, customers will be sent an email containing a "sound invoice." Upon arriving in-store to pick up merchandise, customers can play the sound invoice from their mobile handset into a computer-connected microphone to verify their purchase.
The new audio payment product, named "Sound Wave Payment" (Shengbo Zhifu), is still in the small-scale beta testing phase and will be released to the public in January, hinging on the results of the testing, according to Wang.
