WeChat Tests Audio Chatroom, Audio Reminder Features

Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application has begun beta-testing on a new iOS 4.5 version of the app. The new version of the app has added audio chatroom and voice reminder features.

The new audio chatroom feature allows users to conduct continuous group calls in near-real-time, as opposed to WeChat's current short message audio chat feature.

The new voice reminder feature allows users to set reminders for themselves using voice commands, much like Apple's Siri-feature. Users can instruct WeChat to "Remind me to do X at 8 AM tomorrow," and WeChat will send an in-app reminder at the specified time.

The iOS 4.5 version of WeChat now allows users to scan 2D barcodes to join WeChat groups, and allows users to share multiple photos at once. The company is currently preparing an Android version of the 4.5 version of the app.
