Government to Shut Down Kingsoft Ticket-Booking Browser Plug-in

Sina Tech, 1/18/13

According to a knowledgeable source, China's Ministry of Railways (MOR) has requested Chinese software developer and online entertainment provider Kingsoft (3888.HK) shut down its train ticket purchasing plug-in for the company's Cheetah browser. The browser plug-in was released on Monday January 14.

A Kingsoft spokesperson noted that the company is currently engaged in discussions with the MOR, but declined to go into any further detail.

Train ticket purchases for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday have put a large traffic strain of the MOR's 12306.cn train ticketing site. Many trains frequently sell out within a few minutes of ticket releases. A number of internet browsers have released ticket purchasing plug-ins to assist users in purchasing train tickets from the site.
