iQiyi, Qualcomm Release Handset Chip

Yesterday, US handset chipmaker Qualcomm and Chinese internet firm Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) online video subsidiary, iQiyi, announced the release of a new video-playback-optimized Qualcomm handset chip, the Snapdragon MSM8x25Q. The chip, which uses video playback technology developed by iQiyi, is designed to increase the clarity of videos played on low- to middle-end mobile handset, as well as increase download speeds for video websites visited by mobile users.

According to Qualcomm, a large volume of handsets containing the new chip will be shipped this year through the company's handset partners, including Lenovo (0992.HK), Tianyu Communication Equipment (K-Touch), Samsung, HTC, Motorola, and Nokia.
