Netease Launches Mobile Music SNS App

Chinese internet company Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) has quietly released "Netease Cloud Music" (Netease Yun Yinyue), a music SNS app giving musicians and music fans the ability to discover and share new music.

Netease Cloud Music organizes songs in a basic "playlist" format, allowing users to discover and share new music in the "Discover" and "DJ" columns. The app also has an LBS feature that enables musicians and fans to discover new music by searching what nearby users are listening, or to simply follow what their friends are listening to. The service also allows users to save individual songs or playlists in their accounts for later playback.

Songs on the Netease Cloud Music app can be downloaded and shared via internet companies Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) and Tencent's (0700.HK) microblogging platforms. The Netease Cloud Music app also comes with a song match feature, which can recognize individual songs by recording a small song sample and comparing its "acoustic fingerprint" to songs on Netease's music database.
