Shanda Games, Taobao Partner on CB of Rift

Tencent Tech, 2/22/13

Chinese online game developer and operator Shanda Games (Nasdaq: GAME) announced today that it will partner with Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao to set up a Taobao store as an experiment with a new B2C operations model integrating online games and e-commerce. Beginning March 6, Taobao will exclusively sell the public beta client for 3D fantasy MMORPG Rift, as well as a collectors' edition gift pack for the Rift public beta costing RMB 1 for nationwide delivery. Shanda Games will also begin connecting users' Shanda accounts to their Taobao accounts.

A spokesperson for Shanda Games said that the partnership on Rift will only be the first step for the two companies.
