Tencent Establishes US Office for WeChat

An internal Tencent (0700.HK) e-mail this morning said that the Guangzhou R&D team of the company's corporate development business group has established a United States office for the company's WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application. The office will be responsible for development and research for WeChat users in the US, as well as for client relationship development.

The Guangzhou R&D team of Tencent's corporate development business group is headed by Allen Zhang, the "Father of WeChat." The new US office will work in parallel with Tencent's international business division, which had previously been responsible for overseas marketing for WeChat, with both groups reporting to Tencent CSO James Mitchell.
