Quad-core Comprises 8% of Smartphones Shipped in China in 2012

MIIT, 3/01/13

In its newly released "2013 Mobile Internet White Paper," China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has stated that quad-core handsets accounted for fewer than 8% of smartphone terminals shipped in China in 2012.

The MIIT's analysis traced the relatively low adoption of quad-core processors by terminal manufacturers back to the high cost of quad-core chips, their sub-optimal use of power, deficiencies in mobile OS optimization for quad-core chips, and the limited number of mobile applications capable of taking advantage of quad-core processors.
