Upgraded Taobao Search Checks Descriptions, User Comments

Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao has released a new product information on-deck search tool. If user queries fail to come up with relevant results by searching product title descriptions, Taobao's product information search tool will mine product descriptions and user comments in order to produce relevant results. The new feature allows users to search for more abstract information that would not typically be included in product titles. For example, user queries for "X actress' sweater from X television program" will mine product descriptions and user comments for mentions of the sweater's use in pop culture.

The feature is designed to more effectively drive user traffic and improve conversion rates.
