China to Regulate Individual Online Stores

Sina Tech, 4/08/13

China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) recently put into effect a system of granting specialized business licenses, or "identification certificates," to online stores and websites engaged in business, requiring that these licenses be displayed in a manner similar to the licenses displayed at the bottom of commercial portal sites. This new regulation will strengthen overall management of small- and medium-sized e-commerce sites and is currently being piloted in Beijing and Shanghai. SAIC estimates that the system will be expanded nationwide within five years.
