Rumor: Tencent Jade Studios Director to Head WeChat Gaming

DoNews, 4/08/13

Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) has not yet confirmed rumors that Yao Xiaoguang, GM of the company's Jade Studios game studio, has been named head of Tencent's new WeChat (Weixin) messaging service gaming platform.

Jade Studios, one of four game studios under Tencent, operates QQ Speed, which boasts 3 mln peak concurrent users, and 3D MMORPG Legend of Yulong, which had over 500,000 peak concurrent users in 2012.

An image of the first batch of three mini-games that will be released for the new platform was recently leaked on Sina's Weibo microblogging platform. All three of the games begin with the word "We," including a parkour-themed game, a 3-in-a-row game (We Pang), and a picture matching game (We Link). Players will need to log in through a WeChat or QQ account to play the games.
