Taobao to Launch Revamped Paid Search Service in May

Ebrun, 4/22/13

Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao announced today that it will launch a public beta of the new 2013 version of its paid search ranking service Zhitongche in May. The new version will feature user experience improvements and updates intended to cut down on costs for sellers, as well as a new user interface powering the same promotional options as previous versions.

The advanced search features of the new Zhitongche will reportedly allow users to batch-delete low-performing keywords. More third-party tools could be added to the platform in the future, as well as the option to choose more keywords. Zhitongche has added a feature to automatically delete repeated keywords, and will allow batch edits and matching for related keywords in the new version.

The new version of Zhitongche will also add the ability to rank store promotional keywords. In addition to the existing targeted product promotion features, the new version will add targeted promotions for storefronts, and will expand the number of promotional plans from four to eight in order to allow users to promote more products and storefronts.

The retooled management interface for Zhitongche will allow users to see per-keyword conversion data, and will incorporate more real-time data as well as the ability to compare historical data.

A Taobao Zhitongche employee said that the Zhitongche team has begun working with the team behind Taobao's "Qianniu" mobile operations client for vendors, and will build Zhitongche functionality into the Qianniu client. Taobao launched Qianniu (literally "Thousand Oxen"), its first mobile operations backend tool for vendors, in January 2013. Qianniu allows users to administer products, transactions, sales, members, HR, and finance workflows for mobile store management.
