Tencent to Use Virtual Items Model for Blade & Soul

Tencent Games, 5/02/13

Tencent (0700.HK) Games announced today that it has settled on a virtual items model for the Chinese release of the 3D MMORPG Blade & Soul. To date, Tencent has announced that purchasable content will include user membership (RMB 10 or less per month) and two choices of character outfits. Participants in the closed beta test of the game will be able to pre-pay funds now for use once beta testing begins. The South Korean release of Blade & Soul uses a time-based + virtual items model.

"Blade & Soul memberships" is a value-added service offered to players of the Chinese version of the game. After purchasing the service, which will offer weekly, monthly, and quarterly memberships, users will be able to remove restrictions on healing abilities and character health. At present, only one membership tier is available. The purchasable character outfits are purely decorative in function.
