Vancl Open Platform Details Leaked

Sohu IT, 5/17/13

According to an "invitation" sent to e-commerce companies by Chinese B2C clothing website Vancl, Vancl will hold a partner meeting for its open platform in Shanghai on May 21. Vancl's core partner development team and representatives from the online product brand (Taobao brands, designer brands, and original online brands) and traditional brand (including established and up-and-coming brands) teams will be present at the meeting. Industry invitees fall mainly into the five categories of apparel and accessories; footwear, hats, and handbags; children's clothing and undergarments; home furnishings and home textiles; and athletic and outdoor goods.

Among the new details of Vancl's open platform:

1) While currently Vancl is only opening its own website, it will open its other e-commerce platforms in the future.

2) Vancl will offer participating merchants a "business intelligence management" platform allowing merchants to refer to sales data and other performance indicators.

3) Merchants can choose whether to ship items themselves or to have Vancl handle shipping for items sold on the open platform.

4) Vancl will charge platform commissions at varying rates depending on product categories — mostly at a 5% rate.

5) Settlements will be available in three formats — end of calendar month settlements, online payments, and payment upon delivery — depending on payment method.

6) Monthly platform service fees will also be assessed at varying rates depending on product category — mostly RMB 1,000 per month, payable in quarterly or annual installments.

7) Merchants who prefer payment on delivery will be required to pay Vancl deposit fees starting at RMB 12,000.

8) Merchants will be required to pay Vancl RMB 10,000, 30,000, or 50,000 — depending on product category — as a guarantee of product quality.

9) Vancl will provide value-added software services for users of the platform.

10) Vancl customer service will handle all complaints and return or exchange requests submitted through the platform.

11) Under the terms of service for the platform, Vancl will be required to notify merchants in advance of any sales promotions or other promotional activities in order for merchants to decide whether or not to take part. If merchants fail to respond by the deadline, Vancl will take this as an agreement to participate in the promotion. Should merchants clearly state that they do not wish to participate, Vancl reserves the right to delist merchants' products during the course of the promotion. In this event, Vancl will not be responsible for any losses incurred by merchants or for any fees incurred, and will relist merchants' products following the conclusion of the promotional campaign.
