Rumor: Qihoo 360, Netcore Group Partner on Router
Sohu IT, 6/04/13
Chinese Internet services and security software provider Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU) is preparing to launch a network router device in partnership with Shenzhen-based manufacturer Netcore Group, a reliable industry source said today, predicting a joint announcement of the project in the near future. When contacted for confirmation by a Sohu IT reporter, a Netcore representative asked where the reporter had heard the news and declined to give a clear denial of the report, while a Qihoo 360 representative pled ignorance.
Netcore previously partnered with Chinese online P2P video service provider and download accelerator software developer Xunlei to release a download-focused router with embedded Xunlei functionality, including remote control of download tasks. The forthcoming Qihoo 360 router will likely embed Qihoo 360's firewall software and other features as part of an expected emphasis on hardware device-based online security.
