Permit for Xiaomi 'Hong Mi' Smartphone Cancelled

The network access permit Beijing-based Android handset developer Xiaomi received for the Xiaomi "Red Rice" ("Hong Mi") smartphone on May 16 has been cancelled, according to the Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Although Xiaomi VP Li Wanqiang has made the comment that the company's strategy has been adjusted and Xiaomi no longer plans on releasing the "Red Rice" handset in the near future, Xiaomi has not made any official statement on this matter.
