Rumor: China Unicom Tests Integrated FDD/TD-LTE Network

Sina Tech, 6/26/13

During a meeting with telecom equipment suppliers, Lu Yimin, president and executive director of China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), revealed that the company is currently testing an integrated FDD-LTE and TD-LTE 4G network. Last week, rival China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) declared its intention to pursue an integrated 4G network solution.

Previous media reports have indicated that the MIIT will issue TD-LTE operating licenses to all 3 telecom operators, but require further application for FDD-LTE operating licenses.
