Rumor: Tencent to List WeChat in Singapore

China Daily, 8/13/13

Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) is reportedly planning a spinoff of its WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application through a separate listing on the Singapore Stock Exchange, and has established an office in Singapore to handle the listing, according to the China Daily. Tencent originally planned to list WeChat on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, where its holding company is listed, but decided against the move, anticipating that an IPO of WeChat on the same exchange with the holding company would likely create "issues" for Tencent.

Editor's Note: Tencent has since denied the rumor.
