Alipay Wallet Offers Mobile Game Downloads

Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay has released version 7.2 of the Alipay Wallet mobile app. The new version of the app has added mobile games to the "popular apps" section of the app, namely mobile casual game Fishing Joy and mobile tower-defense online game Doupo Sanguo. A Fishing Joy icon also appears on the Alipay Wallet mobile app's home page, allowing users to download and play the game directly through Alipay Wallet.

According to Doupo Sanguo developer Wangcheng Technology, Alipay's role focuses mainly on channeling mobile traffic to the game rather than on actual game operation. Alipay only charges a commission fee, instead of sharing revenues with game developers on a 50:50 or 60:40 ratio, which is the standard for many mobile game distribution channels. The commission fee is quite cheap as compared to the revenue share model. In the five days Doupo Sanguo has been available on Alipay Wallet, the game has reached a paid user ratio of 16.7%.
