Alipay Plans 2014 Taiwan Expansion

Alibaba, 10/17/13

Third-party payment processor Alipay plans to launch in Taiwan in 2014, pending regulatory approval, according to Fan Zhiming, VP of Alipay.

Alipay is already available in Hong Kong, and the company will make a greater effort in 2014 to draw Hong Kong merchants to the platform in order to better serve existing Hong Kong customers.

Alipay's push into Taiwan mirrors Alibaba's overall strategy of measured expansion into overseas markets where there are large Chinese-reading populations such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan.
