MIIT Begins Research on 5G Technology

Beijing Times, 10/21/13

Wang Zhiqin, director of the 5G standards work group established by the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), a branch of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), revealed today that the CATR has begun research on 5G network technology. According to MIIT Science and Technology Division Vice Inspector Dai Xiaohui, 5G base stations will be smaller in scale than their 4G counterparts, installable in all types of settings, and moreover will require fewer network nodes and intermediary servers in their network architecture. Users in the 5G era will be online at all times, achieving end-to-end data transfer rates of 100 MB/s in any environment, at any time.
