China's September 2013 Handset Shipments Down 16% YoY

A total of 43.72 mln mobile handsets were shipped in China in September 2013, a 15.9% YoY decrease from September 2012, according to new figures released by the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), a department of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Of this total, 12.52 mln 2G handsets and 31.13 mln 3G handsets were shipped. A total of 32.53 mln smartphones were shipped in China during the month, up 12.1% YoY and accounting for 74.4% of total mobile handset shipments. 91.2% of smartphones shipped run on Android OS.

A total of 33.85 mln domestic brand handsets shipped in September, a decrease of 23.5% YoY, accounting for 77.4% of total handset shipments. Additionally, 250 new smartphone models were released in September, a decrease of 14.1% YoY, accounting for 76.0% of new handset models released during the month.
