Rumor: Solo Launcher Denies Rumor of Alibaba Acquisition

Sootoo, 10/24/13

According to a source close to the matter, Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group is looking to acquire Android handset launcher developer Solo Launcher for USD 10 mln. Solo Launcher founder Liu Chunhe has denied the rumor, but has confirmed that the company is in discussions with senior executives from Alibaba's investment arm. According to Liu, the negotiations with Alibaba do not mean that Solo Launcher will accept Alibaba's investment, as he places greater value on app distribution resources and Solo Launcher's own development independence than he does on financing. Liu has also stated that Solo Launcher has not received any outside funding to date.

Solon Launcher was launched overseas in early May, and made its way to the China market in August, accruing a 7-digit user base since. Solo Launcher was incubated by mobile internet training institution Newborn Town (Chizicheng), which also develops ROMs for children's mobile phones.
