Rumor: Coolpad, European Telco to Introduce LTE Handset

Sootoo, 11/13/13

According to industry sources, Shenzhen-based handset maker Yulong Computer Telecommunication (Coolpad), a subsidiary of China Wireless Technologies (2369.HK), will partner with a major European telecom operator to jointly introduce a new LTE handset into the European market in the near future. The partnership will mark Coolpad's first entry into the European market.

The LTE handset will reportedly have a 4.5-inch display. According to previously released company estimates, Coolpad anticipates that in 2014 the company will ship approximately 5.5 mln 3G and 4G handsets overseas, the majority consisting of LTE handsets. Earlier this year, Coolpad also laid out its goals for 2015, namely reaching RMB 30 bln in annual revenue, and increasing the proportion of total revenue derived from overseas sales to 30%, from the current 10%.
