China's Ministry of Culture to Regulate Mobile Gaming Industry

Cnstock, 11/22/13

At the recent Fourth Chinese Mobile Gaming Enterprise Summit Forum, Tuo Zuhai, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture Markets in China's Ministry of Culture (MOC), stated that the Ministry will begin regulation of the mobile gaming market in the near future. According to Tuo, a first focus of oversight will be enterprises that have not obtained an online culture business license, including mobile game operating platforms. Subsequent initiatives will focus on the control of pornographic, vulgar, and gambling-related content in the promotion of mobile games.

The Ministry of Culture also plans to make adjustments to game approval policies, with enterprises themselves to be responsible for initial compliance review, and oversight bodies to primarily work in a post-release review, verification, and penalty assessment role.
