MOFCOM: China's E-Commerce GMV to Reach RMB 18 Trln in 2015

Beijing Times, 11/22/13

China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) yesterday issued China e-commerce market projections for the coming two years. According to MOFCOM, total e-commerce (B2B+B2C+C2C) gross merchandise volume (GMV) will exceed RMB 18 trln by 2015, with online retail (B2C+C2C) sales volume to account for over 10% of all China's consumer retail sales for the year. Over 80% of large enterprises will use e-commerce services by 2015.

The Ministry will support e-commerce development among department stores, chain retailers, and other traditional offline retailers by encouraging the use of offline product offerings to supplement online listings. MOFCOM will also encourage the use of e-commerce for recycling, trade in used goods, auctions, and cross-border trade.

MOFCOM will encourage increased investment from individuals and e-commerce enterprises in agricultural product e-commerce development, and is also placing a core focus on small and medium enterprise (SME) e-commerce development.
