SAPPRFT to Promote China's Documentary Industry

Sarft.net, 12/10/13

Gao Changli, head of the Publicity Bureau for China's State Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), has disclosed that SAPPRFT will soon announce a series of initiatives to promote the development of China's documentary filmmaking industry.

Gao has noted that documentary filmmakers face three major obstacles in China: a relatively small market, low licensing fees, and a lack of copyright protection.

In 2013, the Science & Education Channel of China Central Television (CCTV 10) spent more than RMB 100 mln on documentary films, including RMB 80 mln in self-financing for conventional documentary films.
