WeChat v5.1 Emphasizes WeChat Pay, Integrates More Apps

Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) released version 5.1 of its WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application on the company's MyApp app download platform yesterday evening. New features include:
1) In the "+" menu of the chat window, icons have been added for Tencent's "Weishi" short video sharing app and "Chuangyi Xiangji" photo editing and emoticon creator app. After downloading the apps, users can launch them directly though WeChat.
2) The maximum size of WeChat groups has been increased from 40 to 100 people. By default, users can only have one group that exceeds 40 people, but they can gain access to two more larger groups if they sign up for WeChat's in-app payment service WeChat Pay ("Weixin Zhifu"), and a fourth if they make a charity donation using WeChat Pay.
3) Users can add a delivery address to their profile page for use with WeChat Pay.
4) Tencent's mobile security product Tencent Mobile Manager is now recommended in the "My Account" section of WeChat.
5) Users can now spend RMB 6 to revive crashed planes three times in WeChat's pre-installed mobile casual game Pencil Pilot.
6) Users can preview emoticons by long-pressing them in the emoticon purchase page.
7) Users can recharge the mobile phone accounts of their WeChat contacts. A greeting card is sent to the recipient after the transaction.
