China Telecom 2014 4G Capex to Reach RMB 40 Bln

Wang Xiaochu, chairman and CEO of China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK), has revealed that the company's capital expenditures will total RMB 80 bln in 2014, half of which will be allocated to 4G development. China Telecom has applied for a FDD-LTE license from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and is currently in talks with the Chinese government to obtain the license as soon as possible. Wang expects China Telecom to increase its FDD-LTE expenditures as soon the company secures a license.

China Telecom has deployed its 4G trial network in more than 60 cities, and expects to cover more than 300 cities by the end of the year. The company is targeting 4G handset sales of 36 mln units in 2014.
