Shanghai Telecom to End Dial-up Internet Support

China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) Shanghai subsidiary has announced that, beginning at midnight on July 1, the company will no longer provide dial-up internet services within Shanghai.

Shanghai currently has approximately 10,000 dial-up customers, consisting primarily of point of sale (POS) terminals and lottery ticket retailers.

Editor's note: According to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), as of the end of April 2014 there were 4.62 mln dial-up internet subscribers in China.
