Tmall Drugstore H1 2015 GMV Reaches RMB 2.2 Bln

Tmall Drugstore (yao.tmall.com), the pharmaceuticals and medical products channel of Alibaba Group's (NYSE: BABA) B2C e-commerce site Tmall, has published figures showing that as of the end of June, gross merchandise volume (GMV) across the five major categories of medical devices, over the counter drugs, contraceptives, health supplements, and medical services reached RMB 2.2 bln. Medical equipment accounts for 40% of all sales, followed by OTC drugs with nearly 30%. The number of companies licensed to sell medicine online has grown by 44 in the first half of the year to reach a total of 314. Among these, 194, or nearly 62%, have flagship stores on the platform, according to Tmall's statistics.
