Tmall Supermarket Issues RMB 1 Bln in Coupons to Beijing Users

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) has announced a new promotion in Beijing for the Tmall Supermarket channel (http://chaoshi.tmall.com/) on its B2C e-commerce site Tmall.com. The channel will release RMB 1 bln worth of RMB 50 cash coupons to users in Beijing, redeemable on orders over RMB 88.

Tmall Supermarket, which offers fresh food and various other goods one would normally find in an offline supermarket, will use Cainiao Network Technology, a smart logistics company established by Alibaba, to offer same-day delivery to Beijing residents. Goods ordered before 11am will arrive before 10pm.

Jin Cheng, GM for Tmall Supermarket, says the promotion will subsequently be offered in Shanghai and then expanded to other cities.
