Ebrun, 9/21/15
Suning Logistics, a service run by Chinese consumer electronics and home appliance retailer Suning (002024.SZ), has begun handling deliveries for Alibaba Group's (NYSE: BABA) online supermarket platform Tmall Supermarket. A consumer has reported that a package ordered this morning was delivered at noon by a Suning Logistics courier.
A spokesperson for Suning Logistics says the company is undergoing a trial period and is only handling orders for one type of tissue box. The boxes are currently warehoused in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Wuhan, and delivered nationwide. The company has become an official delivery partner of Tmall and the two have already connected their back-end systems.
The spokesperson went on to say that the trials have been successful and they are preparing for Alibaba Group's November 11 Singles Day mega sale. Suning hopes to be tasked with delivering lifestyle products, food and electrical appliances.
Suning Logistics began operating at the beginning of this year and already provides logistics solutions to 70% of the enterprises on Suning's online store Suning.com, including consumer appliance manufacturer Midea Group (000333.SZ) and supermarket chain Yonghui Superstores (601933.SH).
