China's Jan-Mar 2016 Online Retail GMV Up 28% YoY

NBSC, 4/15/16

China's gross merchandise volume (GMV) of online retail products and services reached RMB 1.025 trln for the 3 months ended March 31, 2016, up 27.8% YoY, according to newly released figures from the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBSC).

Of this figure, online consumer goods comprised RMB 824 bln, up 25.9% YoY, and accounting for 10.6% of overall consumer goods retail sales.

Month Online Retail GMV (RMB/Bln) Online Consumer Goods GMV (RMB/Bln) Online Services GMV (RMB/Bln)
Jan-Feb 636.1 505.3 130.8
Mar 389.0 318.8 70.2

Editor's Note: Prior to 2016, the NBSC broke down its monthly online retail GMV statistic into two categories: online consumer goods GMV and online services GMV. However, from January 2016, the NBSC stopped providing specific figures for the online services GMV category. Accordingly, the online services GMV figures in the table above were calculated by Marbridge with the assumption that online services continues to be the other component of the NBSC's monthly online retail GMV statistics.
