Online Gene Testing Service 'Gene Plus' Lands RMB 200 Mln Series A

Beijing-based Geneplus Technology, operator of online gene testing and analysis service Gene Plus, announced recently that it has completed RMB 200 mln in Series A funding led by Beijing Genomics Institute with participation by Volcanics Venture and Shenzhen-based Green Pine Capital Partners.
Gene Plus specializes in cancer screening genetic testing services and caters to both general healthcare users and cancer patients. For healthcare users, Gene Plus offers cancer risk testing services to help users assess their probability of developing cancer and to help doctors develop an appropriate cancer prevention strategy. For cancer patients, Gene Plus provides genetic testing services to help identify the optimal combination of treatment drugs for the patient, and to provide complete information regarding cancerous gene mutations. This information is used to track a cancer's drug resistance, recurrence, and metastasis, in order to help the patient and their physician update their approach to treatment.
Users can also use the Gene Plus website and public account on Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app to book appointments online. Gene Plus nursing staff will visit the patient at home to collect samples and will perform genetic testing in the company's own laboratories. Test results are provided in the form of an analytical report that can be accessed by the patient online. Users can also visit the company's offline testing centers to provide samples and to receive their test results.
Gene Plus, established in April 2015, currently operates in 18 provinces and major cities throughout China and has partnerships with more than 100 hospitals and hundreds of cancer experts. The company has collected and tested samples for more than 6,000 patients.
