China Unicom Adds 514,000 Mobile Subs in September 2020

Telecom operator China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has announced its subscriber totals for the month of September 2020, with a net gain of 0.51 mln mobile billing subscribers, increasing its total mobile billing user base to 309.18 mln. Of the total, 266.45 mln were 4G subscribers, with a net addition of 2.47 mln LTE subs during the month. China Unicom did not reveal its 5G subscriber totals.
China Unicom lost 0.99 mln fixed-line telephone subscribers in September, dropping its total to 48.23 mln.
The operator gained 0.74 mln fixed-line broadband subscribers (registered accounts) in September, raising its total to 86.56 mln.

China Unicom also reported that in the first three quarters of 2020, mobile billing subscriber (including 5G subscriber) ARPU increased by 2.6% YoY to RMB 41.6. Mobile service revenue amounted to RMB 116.539 bln, down by 1.0% YoY. The rate of decline substantially narrowed as compared to the full year of 2019. Benefiting from the active and effective adjustment of the mobile business priority, Unicom's mobile business development quality gradually improved. In the single third quarter of 2020, mobile service revenue further improved with an increase of 2.5% YoY.
