MIIT, 3/21/22

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its national telecom industry statistics for the 2-month period from January-February 2022. China's total number of mobile service subscribers increased by 7.78 mln since the end of 2021 to reach nearly 1.651 bln as of the end of February 2022.

Other national totals as of the end of February 2022 were as follows:

Note: In calculating the figures for change since the end of 2021, the MIIT used data from its December 2021 Monthly Telecom Statistics Report (as opposed to its final, adjusted 2021 Annual Telecom Statics Report).

Editor's Note: The accounting methods used by the MIIT in calculating China's telecom industry statistics differ from those used by China's telecom operators. As a result, the figures reported by the MIIT for any given month typically do not match the aggregate totals reported by China's three main telecom operators for the same month. In addition, the 5G statistics reported by the operators represent all 5G package subscribers, while those reported by the MIIT represent the number of subscribers with both 5G service plans and compatible handsets, which are much lower than the package counts.
