MIIT Releases China's July 2021 Fixed-Line, Mobile User Totals by Province

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics detailing the country's total number of fixed-line telephone subscribers (registered accounts) and mobile subscribers by province as of the end of July 2022. China finished the month with over 181 mln fixed-line subs and more than 1.672 bln mobile subs. Among total mobile subs, 5G handset subs accounted for 474.6 mln, or 28.4%.
The five provinces with the highest penetration of 5G handset subs among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Qinghai with 33.9%, followed by Guangdong (32.1%), Beijing (31.9%), Ningxia (31.2%), and Zhejiang (31.2%). The provinces with the lowest 5G handset sub penetration were Shanghai (24.8%), Hebei (25.2%), Liaoning (25.4%), Jilin (25.6%), and Xinjiang (26.3%).
The five provinces accounting for the greatest proportion of China's total 5G handset subs, or 37.0% combined, were Guangdong (11.3%), Jiangsu (6.6%), Henan (6.6%), Shandong (6.5%), and Zhejiang (6.0%).
