MIIT: China Adds 10 Mln Mobile Subscribers in March 2026

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its national telecom industry statistics for the month of March 2026, during which China’s total number of mobile phone subscribers rose to slightly over 1.836 bln, representing a net increase of approximately 10.20 mln month-on-month. Among this total, China’s number of 5G mobile phone subscribers reached 1.254 bln, comprising 68.3% of China’s total mobile phone subscriber base, up 0.7 percentage points month-on-month and 2.4 percentage points since the end of 2025. China's total number of mobile internet subscribers increased to approximately 1.623 bln, up approximately 20.27 mln month-on-month.
China’s total number of cellular IoT connections reached nearly 2.948 bln by the end of March 2026, up approximately 26.46 mln month-on-month.
As of the end of March 2026, China’s total number of deployed 5G base stations reached 4.958 mln, up by approximately 49,000 month-on-month.
China’s total number of wireline broadband accounts reached nearly 697 mln by the end of March 2026, up approximately 2.67 mln month-on-month. Among these, accounts providing speeds of 100 Mbps or faster comprised 665 mln, or 95.5%; and accounts providing speeds of 1,000 Mbps or faster comprised 249 mln, or 35.8%, up 10.90 mln month-on-month.
China’s total number of internet TV (IPTV and OTT) subscribers reached slightly over 410 mln by the end of March 2026, representing a net increase of approximately 0.21 mln month-on-month.
