Rumor: China Telecom Unveils CDMA Handset Bidding Results

A terminal manufacturer has revealed that China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has completed the bidding process for 5 mln CDMA handsets. The big winners are said to be Samsung, Huawei, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Hisense (600060.SH), Yulong, and LG. The source claimed that among these firms, Samsung and ZTE won contracts for 1 mln and 900,000 handsets respectively; Motorola won a 3% share of bids; Hisense more than 10%; and Amoi (600057.SH) won a contract for 20,000 handsets on the strength of its GPS-enabled smartphones.
