Sumavision to Establish R&D Subsidiary

On June 5, Chinese digital video and IPTV systems provider Sumavision (300079.SZ) announced in a public filing that it plans to develop production and construction for its various services through establishment of a new subsidiary. Sumavision plans to invest RMB 100 mln in the subsidiary, to be named "Dingdian Video Technology," which will focus specifically on R&D, production, and sales for Sumavision's hardware products.
In order to increase its R&D capabilities, Sumavision also recently joined with Tsinghua Holdings and six other companies and organizations to invest a total of RMB 50 mln in establishing the National Engineering Laboratory for Digital Television (Beijing), which will specialize in R&D and development for DTV-related technologies and products.
Another filing on the same day said that Sumavision plans to increase its investment in Fujian Newland S&T by RMB 60 mln, giving Sumavision a total stake of 10% of Newland S&T's registered capital. Newland S&T focuses mainly on digital television and wireless communications.
