CCTV to Trial Terrestrial HDTV in Beijing

Sina Tech, 12/28/07

CCTV's terrestrial DTV broadcasts, scheduled to start in Beijing from January 1, will initially include a single HDTV channel, using the single-carrier wave national standard, and four standard definition channels using a multi-carrier wave solution.

This approach is being used as CCTV has only allocated two frequencies for the national standard - one which will be used for fixed reception, and one for both fixed and mobile reception. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) is to start high-definition terrestrial broadcasts from the spring in Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Shenyang and Qinhuangdao.
