Tencent Offers WeChat Unbound to QQ, Phone Number

Chinese internet giant Tencent (0700.HK) has released a new version of its Weixin (WeChat) mobile messaging application for Android 4.3 which features a number of upgrades and also drops a previous requirement that users bind the app to their QQ account and phone number.

The new version includes a "shake" function to upload images on the user's PC browser client to their mobile device, and can scan 2D barcodes and automatically add information to the user's address book. Users can also find contact information using voice search.
